The last games of 2002 have been played, and a whopping 16 teams have five or fewer losses. That doesn't make the task of picking the top 16 teams easier – in fact, considering strength of schedule, it could be harder than ever. But we took a crack at it, and the nine holiday tournaments helped a bit. Seven of the champions made the list.

Take a look at how the Inside College Hockey editors and staff think the contenders stack up – and let us know what you think.

1. Maine Want to know what makes Maine college hockey's deepest team? Guys like Everblades MVP Gray Shaneberger.
2. North Dakota 1 Hosts CC this weekend. Dear Zach, Wish you were here. The Sioux.
3. Colorado College 1 Dear Zach, Glad the World Juniors aren't in Grand Forks until 2005. The Tigers.
4. Denver 6 Two shutouts against Miami and UNH – that's more like it.
5. Cornell 2 Can't blame a 1-0 loss on LeNeveu's absence.
6. Boston College 1 Eagles are 0-3-2 in overtime this year. What would Krys Kolanos say about that?
7. New Hampshire 1 Wildcats counting on a defenseman (Garrett Stafford, who could return Thursday) to revive stale offense.
8. Minnesota 3 Impressive wins. Would have been even moreso if Yale had Higgins and BC had Shannon.
9. Michigan 1 Wolverine spin: losing the GLI is a good reality check. Here's a reality check: losing is bad.
10. Boston University 4 New Year's resolution: play every game like it's a tournament.
11. Ohio State 1 Buckeyes vs. Princeton at 5 p.m. Fiesta Bowl at 8 p.m. Bad luck for ticket sales at the Igloo.
12. Harvard 5 We really want to like the Crimson. We also want them to win a non-conference game.
13. Ferris State 4 See, we told you guys there really was a hockey team from Alabama.
14. Miami 1 RedHawks at Michigan for a big test this weekend.
15. Dartmouth NR Do you know the name Hugh Jessiman? NHL scouts do.
16. Massachusetts Minutemen made it an all-Hockey East final in Florida.
