Inside College Hockey 2008-09 Preseason
All-America Teams
Inside
College Hockey is proud to announce its 2008-09 Preseason
All-America teams. While the American Hockey Coaches Association
chooses its All-America teams on an East and West basis, we
prefer to see college hockey as a national game – thus
our first-, second- and third-team All-Americans, plus our
All-Rookie Team, are not divided on regional lines.
The selections
were made by Inside College Hockey editors and staff, with
input from media and coaches from around the country.

COLLEGE HOCKEY 2007-08
PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA FIRST TEAM |
Erik
Condra
Notre Dame
Senior
Forward |
2007-08:
41 GP, 15-23—38
We'll never know if the outcome of April's NCAA championship
game against Boston College would've been different
had Condra been in the lineup. We do know this —
he's a terrific playmaker (85 career assists) who has
become a proven goal-scorer (30 goals, 10 PPG, 8 GWG
over the last two seasons). |
Chad
Rau
Colorado College
Senior
Forward
|
2007-08:
40 GP, 28-14—42
He scored 28 goals and was a big part
of Colorado College's efforts to win the MacNaughton
Cup. Unlike some WCHA colleagues, CC returns a lineup
largely unaffected by early departures. The Tigers have
their sights set on the Frozen Four. |
Joe Whitney
Boston College
Sophomore
Forward |
2007-08:
44 GP, 11-40—51
Nathan Gerbe got the attention, but Joe Whitney stirred
the drink. No matter how great your linemates are, 40
assists don't happen accidentally. Especially for a
freshman. His knack for making plays and incredible
vision make him one of the country's best forwards. |
Mark Mitera
Michigan
Senior
Defenseman |
2007-08:
39 GP, 8-23—31
As a junior he was one of Michigan's undisputed leaders
of a very young crop of players. Those freshmen have
gained a year of experience, but the graduation of Chad
Kolarik and Kevin Porter makes this Mitera's team (and
it's a good one). |
Nick
Petrecki
Boston College
Sophomore
Defenseman
|
2007-08:
42 GP, 5-7—12
He's considered one of the baddest men in college hockey
— one of the toughest, most outstanding defensemen
in the nation. Yes, we know he only turned 19 over the
summer, and we're still calling him a man. |
Richard Bachman
Colorado College
Sophomore
Goaltender |
2007-08:
25-9-1, 1.85 GAA, .931 sv. pct.
At this time last year, college hockey followers doubted
Colorado College's unproven goaltending situation. Bachman
only went on to earn WCHA Rookie and Player of the Year
honors in leading the Tigers to the regular-season title. |

We select
our Preseason All-Rookie Team with a slightly different approach
than our Recruiting Rankings, which are based on talent and
potential impact over four years. Here we measure potential
impact just as freshmen.
