Inside College Hockey 2004-05 Preseason
All-America Teams
Inside College
Hockey is proud to announce its 2004-05 Preseason All-America teams.
While the American Hockey Coaches Association chooses its All-America teams on an East and
West basis, we prefer to see college hockey as a national game –
thus our first-, second- and third-team All-Americans, plus our
All-Rookie Team, are not divided on regional lines.
The selections
were made by Inside College Hockey editors and staff, with input
from media and coaches from around the country.

COLLEGE HOCKEY 2004-05
PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA FIRST TEAM |
Patrick Eaves
Boston College
Junior
Forward |
2003-04:
34 GP, 18-23—41
Eaves
played a bit in the shadow of linemates Ben Eaves (his older
brother) and Tony Voce last year, but now he and senior Ryan
Shannon will be looked to as BC's offensive leaders. Strong
on his skates with tremendous skills, Eaves combines his brother’s
playmaking ability and Voce’s finishing touch. |
Jim Slater
Michigan State
Senior
Forward |
2003-04:
42 GP, 19-29—48
Slater
plays with a hard-nosed style, driving to the net with abandon.
His strength allows him to maneuver in traffic with the puck
and ward off defenders. He’s hardly one-dimensional
– give him space and he’ll unleash a shot that’s
among the hardest and most accurate in the college game. |
Lee Stempniak
Dartmouth
Senior
Forward |
2003-04:
34 GP, 16-22—38
Stempniak brings a strong work ethic and all-around game to
the ice every night and has the talent and creativity to manufacture
offense on his own. He may not capture headlines the way linemate
Hugh Jessiman does but without Stempniak, Jessiman wouldn't
be a point-per-game player. |
Andrew Alberts
Boston College
Senior
Defenseman |
2003-04:
42 GP, 4-12—16
Alberts
is a physical force who has also gained confidence when the
puck's on his stick. His positional play and excellent reach
are big reasons why the Eagles are so successful at limiting
opponents' shots. |
Andy Greene
Miami
Junior
Defenseman |
2003-04:
41 GP, 7-19—26
There
are defensemen with gaudier statistics, but you’d be
hard pressed to find a blueliner as consistent as Greene.
Fundamentally sound on both ends of the ice, he’s often
the first player Miami coaches send over the boards regardless
of the situation. |
Jim Howard
Maine
Junior
Goaltender |
2003-04:
14-4-3, 1.19 GAA, .956 GAA
Al
Montoya garnered much of the attention last season after leading
the U.S. to its first World Junior gold medal, but Howard
– who missed the WJC due to an ankle injury –
took Maine to the brink of an NCAA title. With partner Frank
Doyle graduated, Howard becomes Maine’s go-to guy in
goal. |

We select our
Preseason All-Rookie Team with a slightly different approach than
our Recruiting Rankings,
which are based on talent and potential impact over four years. Here we measure potential impact
just as freshmen.
