The Hobey Baker Memorial Award is presented
to a deserving recipient on the day before the last
college hockey game of the season. But that doesn’t
mean that college hockey fans, players and media members
don’t think about it all season. Inside College
Hockey's Hobey Tracker looks at the top three candidates
for the award, those whose stock is rising or falling,
and other players worthy of consideration.
The Hobey Tracker will be updated every
other Wednesday morning during the first half of the
season, and every Wedneday morning during the second
half of the season.
THE
BIG BOARD |
1.
Nathan Gerbe
Boston College
Junior | Forward |
To
Date: 18-18—36, +14, 7 PPG, 3 SHG
The Buzz: It's a popular question
with INCH e-mailers: How does Gerbe get the nod
over Porter, Lasch, Ryan Jones, etc.? Well, we
think the guy does as much as the players listed
above with just a little less to work with. BU
ended his recent nine-game point streak, by the
way — only once during that stretch did
he fail to put up crooked numbers. |
2.
Kevin Porter
Michigan
Senior | Forward |
To
Date: 22-17—39, +18, 12 PPG
The Buzz: Rather than listing
Gerbe and Porter as nos. 1 and 2, it'd be more
fitting to call them nos. 1.000 and 1.001 —
that's how narrow we see the gap between the two.
Porter continues to play the role of Mr. Reliable
for the Wolverines. He had a goal in each of his
team's two wins against Notre Dame last weekend,
giving him at least one point in 13 of his last
14 games.

3.
Ryan Lasch
St. Cloud State
