Nine College Hockey Related Ballot Initiatives
• Red Measure (Michigan):
Would cap the number of home games the University of
Michigan hockey team could play during one season at
32.
• Proposal 21 (Wisconsin):
Would allow a hockey stick as a substitute form of legal
identification when entering a bar.
• Initiative Eh?: Would
change spellings of the words center, defenseman, and
offense to centre, defenceman, and offence in a nod
to hockey's Canadian heritage. Would also mandate that
the word organization be pronounced "ore-gan-EYE-ZAY-shun."
• Proposal CCHA (Ohio):
Would make checking from behind a felony.
• Amendment BU (Boston):
Would recognize the winner of the Beanpot title game
as the true national champion.
• Proposal X (New York
State): Would ban 'hostile and abusive' treatment of
fish at Souther Tier hockey rinks. (Fast-tracked legislation
enacted in time for Friday.)
• Proposal 285 (New Hampshire):
Would ban all third-period goaltending meltdowns in
March and April. Punishment is watching the "Handling
the Puck Behind the Net the Ty Conklin Way" video.
• Referendum UAA: Would
change name of University of Alaska Anchorage to University
of Not Fairbanks, Which is a Cold, Remote Outpost Where
People Have No TV and Are Regularly Eaten by Abominable
Snowmen.
• Measure
AHA (North Dakota): Would authorize the state to erect
signs the entire length of the NoDak-Minnesota border
reading, "Welcome to North Dakota: Where Minnesota
lost to Holy Cross in the first round of the 2006 NCAA
Men's Ice Hockey Tournament."
