8 Ex-Collegians (and 2 Current Ones) Who Could Move Prior
to the NHL Trade Deadline
• Joe Colborne/Phil Kessel/Mark
Stuart (Boston): The B's are apparently in hunt for a top
flight defenseman, and this troika with WCHA ties appears
frequently as trade bait.
• Erik Cole (Edmonton): Cole
has been a disappointment for the Oil with just 25 points.
The erstwhile Clarkson star is in the last year of his contract;
he won the Stanley Cup with Carolina in 2006.
• Bill Guerin (New York Islanders):
The former BC sniper will definitely be moved by the NHL's
worst team. Guerin's an unrestricted free agent come July
1, and some team could use his 400 career goals.
• Jordan Leopold (Colorado):
The ex-Minnesota defenseman could be dealt to a team in search
of point man for its second power-play unit by the Avs, currently
last in the Western Conference.
• David McIntyre (New Jersey):
The Colgate junior's rights have been dealt twice this season
– from Dallas to Anaheim to New Jersey. Why not go for
the natural hat trick?
• Dominic Moore (Toronto): The
Harvard alum has had a breakout season (41 points). But he's
an UFA and the Leafs are in full rebuilding mode; if they
can't sign him to an extension, they'll move him.
• Martin St. Louis (Tampa Bay):
Bolts' brass is adamant they won't flip St. Louis to another
club, but the former UVM star's name keeps cropping up in
rumors. He'd likely bring a king's ransom in a deal.
• Keith Tkachuk (St. Louis):
An ex-Terrier, Tkachuk appeared almost certain to be traded
six weeks ago, but the plucky Blues are somehow three points
out of a playoff spot in the mediocre West.
