Michigan's
Mitera Out With "Serious" Knee Injury
Michigan
senior defenseman and team captain Mark Mitera will be out
for an extended period of time after sustaining a knee injury
in the Wolverines' win against St. Lawrence at Yost Ice
Arena Friday.
Mitera collided with a Saints player late
in the first period of the season opener for both teams.
The Livonia, Mich., native, Inside College Hockey's 2008
Defenseman of the Year and an INCH Preseason All-American,
was helped off the ice by a pair of teammates.
During his post-game press conference Friday,
coach Red Berenson said that Mitera was getting an MRI that
night, adding that he didn't know the specifics of the injury
but said that "it's going to be serious."
According to a Michigan athletics spokesperson,
Mitera could possibly undergo surgery on the damaged knee,
but that a decision wouldn't be made until Mitera's family
discusses options with doctors.
