Providence Dismisses Goepfert From Team
Bobby
Goepfert, who would have been one of the top returning goaltenders
in Hockey East, has been dismissed from the Providence team for
unspecified violations of team rules.
Goepfert, who would have been a junior this fall,
posted a 21-15-4 record in his two years for the Friars, with a
.921 save percentage and a 2.46 goals-against average. The starting
goaltender on the 2003 U.S. National Junior Team, Goepfert was 15-9-3
with a .919 save percentage and a 2.49 GAA this past season.
Goepfert was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins
in the sixth round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Without Goepfert, Providence has two returning goaltenders
on its roster: seniors David Cacciola and Mike Wolfe. After not
playing at all as a sophomore, Cacciola made 11 appearances last
season, posting a 1-5-4 record, a .933 save percentage and a 2.06
GAA. Wolfe appeared in two games for a total of two and a half minutes
of action in 2003-04.
Providence does
not currently have a goaltender among its recruiting commitments.
