USA Hockey Fills Out National Junior Team
USA Hockey filled
out its roster for the 2005 World Junior Championship today, naming
with 10 players joining the 12 already named to the U.S. National
Junior Team.
The team, which
will defend Team USA's gold medal in the tournament that begins
later this month in Grand Forks, N.D., features 14 college hockey
players, two former collegians and one future collegian.
Minnesota Duluth
head coach Scott Sandelin will be the head coach of the U.S. team.
He stepped in for the original choice, Dean Blais, when the former
North Dakota coach took an assistant position with the NHL's Columbus
Blue Jackets.
The Canadian National Junior Team, for the first time since 1997, will not have a U.S. college player on its roster. Hockey Canada sources told Canadian media that North Dakota's Travis Zajac was the lone U.S. college player seriously considered for an invitation to the Canadian team's selection camp.
