By Warren Kozireski

The conference managed just two victories in nine games last weekend, but both were significant.

Matt Caruana and Niagara's power play came through in a recent win over Bowling Green.

National TV Schedule

New Alabama-Huntsville head coach Danton Cole picked up a win in his first game behind the Chargers bench thanks to Tom Train's game-winner with four seconds remaining in regulation for a 4-3 victory over Canisius.

UAH got a 10-point weekend from the line of Train, Tyler Hilbert and Josh Murray in their split with Canisius and Nebraska-Omaha at the Maverick Stampede in Nebraska.

The opening night victory marked the first time since 2001 the Chargers have won their season lid-lifter.

The other conference tally in the win column came when Niagara extended their best-in-the-nation home unbeaten streak to 18 games with a 2-0 shutout over Bowling Green.

Junior goaltender Juliano Pagliero registered the second shutout of his career with the power play unit with Kyle Rogers, Matt Caruana and Tyler Gotto accounting for both goals.

The Broncos of Western Michigan invade Dwyer Arena this weekend for two games trying to break the streak. The last time the two teams met in 2004, the Broncos swept the Purps in Kalamazoo.

SEEN AND HEARD IN THE CHA

Elsewhere Around the League: The Beavers are at it again. After a season that featured 12 one-goal games, Bemidji State has already played three one-goal affairs in their first four games this season. They were 8-4 in close ones last season, but already this year have half of last year's loss total.

Meanwhile, Wayne State picked up their first point with a 2-2 tie at Ferris State thanks to freshman Kyle Funkenhauser's 39 save effort including 19 over the final 25 minutes. The newcomer has appeared in three of the Warriors first four games this season.

Robert Morris struggled at Wisconsin after the season-opening tournament championship in Alaska. The Badgers learned from Boston University and were obviously prepared for the Colonials on their way to convincing wins of 7-2 and 8-2.

(Fri.-Sat.)

It's early, but conference action begins this weekend with Robert Morris hosting Wayne State for two games in Moon Township with the Warriors looking for their first victory of the season.

While You're There: Station Square's annual Kidtoberfest, featuring Dorothy and her friends from Oz, will take place on Saturday from noon until 4 p.m. outside on Station Square Drive and in the Freight House shops.

Stick Salute

To UAH head coach Danton Cole for his first win behind the Chargers' bench despite his team being whistled for eight minors and allowing seven power-play chances, with 12 freshmen on the roster.

Bench Minor

With just three returning defensemen, Wayne State has allowed 17 goals over its first four games this season.

FRIES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BAG

• Niagara's last five shutouts have all come at Dwyer Arena.

• UAH has fond memories of their last trip to the state of Massachusetts—a 5-2 upset last season over the UMass Minutemen with Kevin Morrison scoring twice. They are at UMass-Lowell for two this weekend.

• With their 2-2 tie at Ferris State, Wayne State now has had 4 kissing-your-sister games over their last nine regular season affairs.

• Robert Morris sophomore forward Kyle Frieday, who scored 11 points in 22 games last season, didn't see the ice until game four at Wisconsin.

• The last time Bemidji State won their first two games of the season, they advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2005-06.
