Key Statistics: Boileau
finished second in overall scoring for Union during
his freshman season with six goals and 21 points. He
played in all 35 of Union's games. Even though he primarily
played on the wing, he was a center most of his life
and was used at that position when needed. He was Union's
best face-off man, winning 207 of 338 draws, for a .621
success rate.
What He Does: Boileau
is a Renaissance Man of sorts. His adaptability to play
any of the forward positions was already mentioned.
He's especially active around the net in tough scoring
areas, and recorded eight points during a six-game stretch
of ECAC Hockey games in January, helping the team to
a 4-1-1 record in that crucial part of the season. Boileau
is carrying a 3.9 cumulative grade-point average through
three trimesters in a pre-med program, including earning
a 4.0 GPA during the spring trimester. Off the ice,
his card tricks are very popular among teammates and
friends of the hockey program.
The Bigger Picture: Boileau
has put up solid scoring numbers at all levels of hockey
and provided decent production for Union as a freshman,
trailing only classmate Adam Presizniuk in points for
the Dutchmen. Both of those forwards will continue to
be relied on heavily as Union seeks to keep moving forward.
Last season the Dutchmen finished over .500 for the
third time in the 17-year Division I history of the
program and earned a bye in the first round of the ECAC
Hockey playoffs by earning the fourth seed.
Union head coach Nate Leaman on
what motivates Boileau: "Stephane likes
to prove everyone wrong. As a player, he takes it as
a challenge when someone says he can't do something."
