Key Statistics: Cepis
finished his freshman year at Bowling Green as the team's
second leading scorer, compiling 15 goals and 16 assists
for 31 points and heads into his sophomore season as
the team's top returning scorer. For his efforts, Cepis
was honored as a member of the CCHA's All-Rookie team.
What He Does: While he's
small in stature (5-8, 165), Cepis makes a big impact
while on the ice. Falcons' head coach Scott Paluch praises
Cepis for his ability to find open spaces in the opponents'
defense and his confidence while going to the net. According
to Paluch, the sophomore is one of the first to arrive
at practice and the last to leave, spending the great
majority of that time improving his shot.
The Bigger Picture: Two
seasons ago, Cepis led the USHL with 34 goals scored
for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Paluch was pleased
with Cepis' 15-goal output during his freshman year.
With another year of experience under Cepis' belt, Paluch
is looking for increased output from him this year,
and will be looking to pair him with linemates that
have strong passing skills, giving the Falcons' the
kind of high-temp offense that gives opponents fits.
Paluch also plans to use Cepis on the power play, teaming
him up with a strong puck-moving defenseman like Kevin
Schmidt to help quickly regain the zone when they lose
control.
Bowling Green Head Coach Scott
Paluch on Cepis: "He's a special offensive
player. He has that combination – being very quick
but having the skills to go with it. He's got a knack
to score and a good understanding of when to jump into
holes, and has the confidence to score goals."
