Key Statistics: Ginand
has posted respectable numbers in his first three collegiate
seasons, posting 10 goals as a freshman and junior while
seeing his assist total rise each year. He finished
fourth on the team in scoring and tied for third in
goals in 2007-08, with five of his 10 goals coming on
the power play.
What He Does: At 5-foot-8,
164 pounds, Ginand is an undersized playmaker who makes
up for his lack of size with good quickness and tremendous
stick-handling. He has the confidence and patience with
the puck that true scorers possess, and has been a big
scorer in the past, which leads head coach Greg Cronin
to believe that a 20-goal season isn't out of the question.
The Bigger Picture: Ginand
was one of Northeastern's best players in the last three
weeks of the season, when the former wing was moved
to center. That switch allowed him to showcase his puck-handling
ability, and he turned out to be solid on faceoffs as
well. With Ginand, leading scorer Joe Vitale and sophomore
Steve Silva all at center, Cronin figures to be able
to deploy three scoring lines that will make the Huskies
harder for opponents to defend against.
Northeastern coach Greg Cronin
on Ginand: "He's got magician-like skills
with the puck. He's got that ability to knife through
traffic that makes him difficult to defend against.
We have enough talent to put around him now that we
should really see an improvement in his offensive numbers."
