Key Statistics: Lenes
has been a consistent scorer since arriving in Burlington
three years ago, averaging just over 10 goals and 20
points per season and ranking among the Catamounts'
top five scorers each year. He had 10 goals (tied for
the team lead) and 22 points in 2007-08. He had a goal
and an assist in the upset of Boston University in the
Hockey East semifinals.
What He Does: At 5-foot-6,
160 pounds, Lenes is small but boasts terrific skill.
He's the waterbug type who is a fan favorite, but head
coach Kevin Sneddon says he's a coach favorite as well
— a player who has a passion for the game, a commitment
to winning and a work ethic to improve at both ends
of the rink.
The Bigger Picture: Vermont
scored just 2.26 goals per game last season, 50th in
the nation, but returns almost all of its offense. Goaltender
Joe Fallon isn't back, however, which could put more
pressure on the likes of Lenes and classmates Dean Strong
and Corey Carlson to produce. After a third-place finish
last year, Vermont is the only team among Hockey East's
top five not to suffer what could be crippling offensive
losses.
Vermont head coach Kevin Sneddon
on Lenes: "He has great speed, unbelievable
hands and is a very creative playmaker. Our task is
to keep his scoring going in the right direction."
