Key Statistics: Longpre
finished tied for fourth on the Colonials in scoring
and was a unanimous selection to the CHA All-Rookie
Team. Fifteen of his 24 points came in non-conference
games and he had five points in six games against the
“big dogs” on the Robert Morris schedule:
Wisconsin, Ohio State and Quinnipiac.
What He Does: The Ontario
native squeezed his way onto the power play unit on
a deep team with seven seniors at forward. He played
some wing and was moved throughout the top three lines
on any given night. The 6-foot, 180-pounder used his
size to his advantage and was solid on faceoffs when
he settled in at center for the final 10 games of the
season.
The Bigger Picture: RMU
will be looking for someone to pair with right wing
Chris Margott on the first line after the departure
of CHA Player of the Year Ryan Cruthers and Longpre
will get the first shot. Through the first two-thirds
of the season, he was neck-and-neck with Bemidji State’s
Matt Read for top rookie honors in the conference. The
Colonials will look to Longpre to pick up his goal scoring,
however, as he scored just three goals in 18 games after
January 1, with just one of those over the final seven
games.
Robert Morris head coach Derek
Schooley on Longpre: "We lost 49 points
with Ryan Cruthers graduating, so I’m looking
for Nathan to go from 20-something to 30-something points
this season. He is a dynamic player with excellent skills
and plays big. Playing with Chris Margott this season,
hopefully his progression will continue and he can help
pick up the slack."
