Key Statistics: Scored
12 of his 14 assists and one of his three goals in conference
games in 2007-08 and picked up half of his career total
of 24 assists this past season as well. Scored just
2:55 into the CHA championship game to give the Beavers
the early lead.
What He Does: Mostly
listed as a right wing, but also played significant
minutes at center and one game late in the season as
a right wing. Was a second or third liner for most of
the season, but missed four games around Thanksgiving
time when he had surgery for appendicitis. One of the
players every team needs, Marino runs full speed every
shift every game and is great on the power play in terms
of offensive zone puck cycling and possession.
The Bigger Picture: Will
be looking for a pair of new linemates this season after
being paired with departed seniors Blaine Jarvis and
Matt Pope for much the later part of the season. The
top line of Travis Winter, Matt Read, and Tyler Scofield
will likely remain intact, so it will be imperative
that Marino and the rest of the second unit relieves
some of the offensive pressure so teams can’t
key on the first group.
Bemidji State coach Tom Serratore
on Marino: “Brandon brings a lot to the
table for us. He’s physical and competes every
shift. I think this year could be a breakout year for
him offensively. He hasn’t shown it completely
up until now, but it could happen for him this year.”
