Key Statistics: Mouillierat
is one of the top three returning scorers for the Mavericks
after posting 11 goals and 11 assists in 39 games last
season. That was a significant jump up from the 15 points
he notched as a rookie.
What He Does: Mavs’
coach Troy Jutting raves about Mouillierat’s offensive
intelligence and his possession of the skills to put
those smarts to good use. In the locker room, Mouillierat
has a reputation for being a quiet but well-liked player.
Jutting says that the forward does his most effective
work from the top of the circles and further in.
The Bigger Picture: A
life-long center, Mouillierat was shifted to right wing
halfway through his sophomore season and placed on a
line with Trevor Bruess and Joel Hanson. The Mavericks
had a .500 record at the time, but that line and the
team clicked after Christmas, winning nine of 13 games
and getting home ice in the WCHA playoffs. Mouillierat
adjusted quickly to the new position and says he really
liked the view from the wing, allowing him to focus
more on offense, scoring goals and getting to the net
– things he did successfully if numbers are any
indication. After devastating playoff series loss to
Minnesota, Mouillierat spent the summer in Edmonton
working at youth hockey camps while focusing on his
skating and his shot. He returns to Mankato with a new-found
determination to get the Mavericks off the bubble and
into the NCAA playoffs in 2009.
Mouillierat on missing an invite
to the 2008 NCAA tournament: “We need
to think about it every day. Every morning that you
wake up and don’t feel like working out, you think
that you have to get out on the ice, because you know
that guy from the Gophers is working out, and you know
that guy from Wisconsin is working out.”
