Key Statistics: Robinson
hasn’t exactly been lighting up the scoreboard
in his first three collegiate seasons but he has been
getting steadier, raising his production each season.
His eight goals last season ranked fifth on Mercyhurst
and his 20 points ranked fourth. He scored three times
as a freshman and five times in a sophomore season that
coach Rick Gotkin called disappointing. In his final
year of juniors with the Milton Ice Hawks of the Ontario
Provincial Junior Hockey League, Robinson posted 26
goals in 30 games. This season Robinson will bring experience
to a still-young Lakers lineup with 108 games played.
What He Does: Robinson
has always been reliable with his defensive duties,
and his success on that end helped spark his offense
a bit last season. He is good on faceoffs and a fine
penalty killer. At times Robinson played wing with Ben
Cottreau, but he played the final seven games of the
season with Matt Pierce and Steve Cameron – all
three players return. Robinson works hard, and his teammates
appreciate that.
The Bigger Picture: The
Lakers lost 20 goals from four seniors, notably Cottreau
(13 goals), so Gotkin will rely on all of his forwards
to pick up the slack. Gotkin expects Robinson, 23, will
continue to find the net and be counted on in crucial
situations.
Mercyhurst head coach Rick Gotkin
on Robinson: "We challenged him going
into last year: Are you going to continue being a role
player or are you going to establish yourself as one
of our top players as a forward? He really rose to the
occasion. He clearly established himself as one of our
top forwards because of his great god-given goal scoring
ability and playmaking."
