Key Statistics: Schofield
put up respectable and balanced numbers in his rookie
year at Lake Superior, scoring 10 goals and adding 10
assists for 20 points. Perhaps his most notable stat
was his +8 rating, four better than linemate Dan Eves,
who was second on the squad, and 10 better than the
next Laker regular.
What He Does: Schofield,
according to head coach Jim Roque, is a model student-athlete
who plays a very intelligent game. In addition to scoring
a 4.0 grade point average in the classroom last semester,
the sophomore-to-be played extremely well as a member
of Lake Superior’s most productive line. Heading
into this season, Roque is hoping that Schofield will
mature as a leader, and develop a little extra quickness
on the ice.
The Bigger Picture: Schofield
spent most of last season skating on a line with Zac
MacVoy, who led the Lakers in scoring with an 8-19—27
line, and Eves, who contributed 11 goals and 15 assists
for 26 points. With Eves gone, Schofield and MacVoy
will most likely continue to skate on the same line
and only time will tell who’s the best fit to
complete the trio. Expect Schofield and MacVoy to continue
eating up valuable time on the power play and to put
up decent offensive numbers with whoever their linemate
might be.
Lake Superior State head coach
Jim Roque on Schofield: "He just has a
really good feel for the game. He was a really good
player in junior hockey, kind of a late bloomer, but
he’s coming on very well and was able to get some
quality ice time for us last season."
