RHETT RAKHSHANI
Denver
His Statistics: 2 GP, 4-0—4,
+3, SHG, GWG
His Impact: If you saw Saturday's
Denver-St. Cloud State game in person or live on television,
or caught the YouTube video of Rakhshani's incredible
performance over the last six minutes of the third period
that night, you get the sense that you're witnessing
a pair of simultaneous transformations. One is the Pioneers
making the leap from very good to great based on their
unwillingness to pack it in against a Huskies team that
had stymied them all night.
The other is Rakhshani's metamorphosis from a good
player to an impact player, one with the knack for making
a key play at a crucial moment — be it a great
individual effort on DU's first goal, a shorthanded
tally; recognizing the SCSU goaltender was out of position
and trying to thow the puck into the crease area (it
would carom off the goaltender and across the goal line);
or finding a sliver of open space in the slot and muscling
a one-time feed into the net with less than 30 seconds
in regulation. Luckily for the Pioneers, Rakhshani did
all three.
His Runners-Up: Tim Crowder (Michigan State), Ben Nelson (Quinnipiac), Alexandre Parent (Sacred Heart), Jon Rheault (Providence), Tyler Scofield (Bemidji State), Mike Zacharias (Minnesota State).
