INCH Player of the Week: Richard Bachman

His Statistics: 2 GP, 1-0-1, 84 saves, 2 GA

His Impact: The Tigers enter their third week as the top-ranked team in the country, but without Bachman’s heroics, they might be the third-best team in the state. The reigning WCHA Player of the Year has been Colorado College’s saving grave (literally) the last two weekends, backstopping the team to three straight road ties — two at Clarkson, one at Denver — and a win against the Pioneers in Colorado Springs Sunday.

Over the last four games, the Tigers’ offense has averaged a meager two goals a game, but the über-stingy Bachman has made those goals stand up by stopping 146 of the 153 shots he’s faced during that span — that’s a .953 save percentage — and he’s made 40 or more saves in each of his last three starts. Bachman’s stellar play over the first month of the season makes him an early favorite for the 2009 Hobey Baker Award.
