Wisconsin
Jr. | D | Faribault, Minn.
His Statistics: 2-2—4, PPG, SHG in the Badgers’ weekend sweep of Minnesota.
His Impact: McBain, the Badgers’ leading scorer with 34 points in 30 games, led WIsconsin to an impressive sweep at Minnesota. In the series opener, he sparked his team to a 3-2 win, scoring a shorthanded goal late in a first period that had been dominated by the Gophers. In Saturday’s finale, he set up both of Wisconsin’s first-period goals, then gave the Badgers the lead for good with a power-play marker midway through the first period.
With the wins, Wisconsin, which opened the season with a seven-game winless streak, moved into a tie for first-place in the WCHA standings with Denver. The Badgers’ next games are Feb. 20-21 against the Pioneers in Madison.
His Runners-Up: Kevin Lohry, Princeton; Egor Mironov, Niagara; Matt Pierce, Mercyhurst; Viktor Stalberg, Vermont; Brian Stewart, Northern Michigan

Yale
Sr. | G | Robbinsdale, Minn.
His Statistics: Richards backstopped Yale to two more victories. He stopped 63 of 64 shots he faced on the weekend in wins over Princeton and Quinnipiac. His shutout of the Bobcats was his second of the season.
His Impact: Yale keeps rolling along and finds different players stepping up every week to make a difference. The latest is senior goalie Alec Richards. He’s been in and out as a starter throughout his career, but after replacing sophomore Ryan Rondeau in a big comeback victory at Colgate, Richards got both starts last weekend and excelled for Yale.
The victories extended Yale’s winning streak to four games and the Bulldogs are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games. They’ve moved into a tie for first place with Cornell, and host Harvard and Dartmouth this weekend.
His Runners-Up: Jeff Gumaer, Bentley; Nick Mazzolini, Providence; Taylor Nelson, Ferris State; Vince Rocco, Niagara; Mike Zacharias, Minnesota State

Clarkson
Sr. | F | Carleton Place, Ontario
His Statistics: Guthrie scored both overtime game-winners for Clarkson as the Golden Knights defeated Union and Rensselaer by identical 4-3 scores. Guthrie added another goal and two assists on the weekend and was a plus-5.
His Impact: It wasn’t long ago that Clarkson languished in last place in ECAC Hockey, but all of a sudden four straight wins have the Golden Knights in seventh place. Senior forward Shea Guthrie has been a major part of that recent turnaround. He scored both overtime goals in Clarkson’s latest victories and has nine points in the team’s last four games.
“Of these past four games, we could have been on the losing end, but we are finding ways to win. Our go-to guys are now difference makers,” Clarkson coach George Roll said. “I can’t say enough good things about the play of Shea Guthrie, Chris D’Alvise and Matt Beca. They have been leading us. If we are going to continue to win, they are the line that has to carry us. They have certainly turned around our season, and theirs.”
His Runners-Up: Jack Connolly, Minnesota Duluth; Riley Gill, Western Michigan; Chris Margott, Robert Morris; Kieran Millan, Boston University; Brett Robinson, Mercyhurst

Providence
Fr. | G | Cumberland, Ontario
His Statistics: 3 GP, 2-0-1 record, 121saves, .938 sv. pct, 2.59 GAA
His Impact: Beaudry joined the Providence roster in midseason, and began his freshman career earlier this month. Tim Army wasted little time in getting him into the lineup and Providence is 3-0-1 in his four starts, including two wins and a tie on the road this week. Beaudry stopped 39 of 41 shots in the Friars’ midweek win at Boston University, then made 42 saves in a 5-4 win at Massachusetts. He capped the week with 40 saves in a 2-2 tie at Maine.
Providence has doubled its win total, from three to six, in the four games since Beaudry has taken over as the team’s starting goalie. The Friars are just four points behind three teams tied for sixth in Hockey East.
His Runners-Up: Travis Anderson, Niagara; Matt Beca, Clarkson; Steve Cameron, Mercyhurst; Chad Johnson, Alaska; John Mitchell, Wisconsin

Michigan
So. | G | Highland, Mich.
His Statistics: 2 GP, 43 saves, 1 goal allowed, 2 wins, 1 shutout
His Impact: The emergence of Bryan Hogan as Michigan’s no. 1 goaltender has been one of the more surprising revelations of the 2008-09 to date. The Highland, Mich., native, who made all of five starts as a freshman while backing up Billy Sauer, backstopped the Wolverines to an impressive sweep of visiting Miami this past weekend. Hogan stopped all but one of the 26 shots he faced in a 5-1 win over the RedHawks Saturday, then turned aside 18 shots in Sunday’s 4-0 triumph to earn his first career shutout.
The Wolverines have won six in a row, and Hogan has been the goalie of record in each of those games. He enters the week eighth in the nation with a 1.75 goals against average, and his .925 save percentage ranks 18th in the country.
His Runners-Up: Jason Gregoire, North Dakota; Brennan Sarazin, RIT; Matt Sweazy, Alabama-Huntsville; Brad Thiessen, Northeastern; Jason Walters, Union

Quinnipiac
Sr. | F | Coquitlam, British Columbia
His Statistics: 4 GP, 4-6—10, four wins
His Impact: A busy and successful week for the Bobcats allowed Leitch to announce his personal presence among the nation’s best scorers. He had four multi-point games in four Quinnipiac wins, including three assists in a win over Air Force in the finals of the UConn Hockey Classic and two goals in a win over nationally-ranked Dartmouth.
Leitch leads all of Division I in points (31) and assists (23) and the Bobcats are one of the hottest teams in the country. They’re 9-2-0 in their last 11 games and the only two losses came on the road against Princeton. Quinnipiac is also 6-1-0 in its last seven ECAC Hockey contests and has moved into third place in the league.
His Runners-Up: Dustin Carlson, Ohio State; Matt Crowell, RIT; Juliano Pagliero, Niagara; Chris Vande Velde, North Dakota; David Warsofsky, Boston University

New Hampshire
So. | F | Superior, Wis.
His Statistics: 1 GP, 4-2—6, PPG, GWG, +4
His Impact: Sure, when you skate on a line someone as dangerous with the puck as James van Riemsdyk, you’re gonna get a few opportunities to score — there’s a reason NHL journeyman Warren Young potted 40 goals after landing on Mario Lemieux’s wing in 1984-85. That said, you’ve got to bury your chances when you get ‘em.
That’s exactly what Sislo did in Durham last Thursday, scoring four goals and adding two assists in the Wildcats’ 9-4 rout of Holy Cross. Primarily a checking winger during his freshman campaign — Sislo played in all 38 of UNH’s games last season, scoring three goals and eight points — he hits the halfway mark of the 2008-09 season ranked second in Hockey East and fifth in the nation with 11 goals.
His Runners-Up: Cody Campbell, Alabama-Huntsville; Scott Darling, Maine; Corey Elkins, Ohio State; Andrew Favot, RIT; Jared Keller, St. Lawrence; Alex Stalock, Minnesota Duluth

Mercyhurst
Sr. | F | Pakenham, Ontario
His Statistics: 2 GP, 6-2—8, SHG, GWG, +9
His Impact: After opening the season with one win in its first nine games, Mercyhurst is on a roll with a seven-game unbeaten streak and six straight wins. The impressive run continued this past weekend as the Lakers blasted American International in a series sweep.
Pierce sparked the ‘Hurst offensive explosion against AIC, netting hat tricks in both games and adding a pair of assists in Satuday’s 11-1 romp. The Pakenham, Ontario, native scored one goal in each period Friday, and notched all three of his Saturday goals in the second period. Pierce, who ranks eighth in the country in goals per game, is in the midst of a three-game goal streak and a four-game point streak — he’s got seven goals and four assists over the last two weekends.
His Runners-Up: Emil Billberg, Bemidji State; Calle Ridderwall, Notre Dame; Ryan Martens, North Dakota; Kieran Millan, Boston University; David Wohlberg, Michigan

Denver
So. | G | Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia
His Statistics: 2 GP, 2-0-0, 67 saves, 2 GA
His Impact: He’s not the most famous hockey player hailing from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia — that would be a certain no. 87 who currently skates for the Pittsburgh Penguins — but Cheverie was just as important to the Pioneers’ success against Colgate and Air Force this past weekend as Sid the Kid was in the Pens’ two wins last week.
Since being pulled from a 5-1 loss to Minnesota at Magness Arena on Nov. 21, Cheverie has been virtually unbeatable. After shutting out the Golden Gophers to hand them their first loss of the season, Cheverie stopped 29 shots in Friday’s win against visiting Colgate, then made 38 saves Saturday — 31 of them in the final two periods — as DU gave Air Force its first blemish of the 2008-09 season.
His Runners-Up: Scott Campbell, UMass Lowell; Matt Dalton, Bemidji State; Calle Ridderwall, Notre Dame; Mario Valery-Trabucco, Union; Ryan Zapolski, Mercyhurst

Notre Dame
Sr. | F | Venetia, Pa.
His Statistics: 2 GP, 4-2—6, 2 PPG, +3
His Impact: The leading scorer for the nation’s second-highest scoring team, Hanson has 14 points in 13 games this season. Not bad for a guy who entered his senior year having scored 33 points in 103 games spanning three seasons. A giant center at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, Hanson led the sizzling Fighting Irish (7-0-1 in their last eight games) to consecutive routs of Bowling Green this past weekend, two goals and an assist in both ends of the home-and-home series.
Hanson has terrorized CCHA foes. Of his 14 points this season, all but two — both goals — have been scored in Notre Dame’s eight league games. That’s good news for the Irish, whose conference opponents in six games prior to the Christmas break (Western Michigan, Ferris State, and Bowling Green) currently have a combined record of 12-20-8 and all rank 32nd or worse in the country in scoring defense.
His Runners-Up: Paul Crowder, Alaska Anchorage; Greg Flynn, Air Force; Rylan Galiardi, Minnesota State; David Marshall, Quinnipiac; Viktor Stålberg, Vermont; Cameron Talbot, Alabama-Huntsville.
