As Maverick said in Top Gun, "I'm gonna hit the brakes and they'll fly right by." OK, it's a flawed metaphor, but by sitting still this weekend while North Dakota split with Minnesota, Colorado College took over sole possession of the top spot in this week's Power Rankings.

Take a look at how the Inside College Hockey editors and staff think the contenders stack up – and let us know what you think.

1. Colorado College

After trip to Michigan Tech this weekend, Tigers play 9 of last 12 at home.

2. Maine 1 Bruce Crowder to the Bangor Daily News: "I'm sick of coaching against Kariyas for a decade. Marty is a fantastic player, just like his older siblings."
3. North Dakota 2 Dean Blais lashed out at a Fargo radio guy. Um, Dean, we're sorry about dropping you two spots, okay?
4. Cornell 1 The Big Red went bowling with their fans Friday night. We're not sure what to make of that, but we like it.
5. Denver 1 Sixth in the WCHA, but fifth in the country? The Pies are better than their conference record suggests.
6. New Hampshire Dartmouth's two North Country losses might take some luster of off Wednesday's matchup in Manchester – but they shouldn't.
7. Boston College 2 Ben Eaves had 2-6—8 in 2 GP over the weekend. If only we could all perform that well with a groin injury.
8. Michigan 1 Saturday, Wolverines gave up a third-period lead for fourth time in their six losses.
9. Boston University 1 Got the winter blahs? A BU-BC home-and-home cures all ills.
10. Minnesota Will the Gophers ever get completely healthy? Matt Koalska latest to go on the shelf.
11. Ferris State 2 Bulldogs, with four-point lead in CCHA, host reeling Northern Michigan this weekend.
12. Ohio State 1 Findlay win extends Buckeye unbeaten streak to eight games (7-0-1).
13. Harvard 1 Here's hoping exams aren't as tough as last-place Princeton was Saturday.
14. Massachusetts A split with Merrimack keeps UMass in the hunt for home ice. Yeah, it's been an odd season in Hockey East.
15. Miami 1 RedHawks need points against Western Michigan this weekend, because series with Ferris State, Michigan State and Ohio State follow.
16. Alabama-Huntsville NR North Dakota: you can send that "Nation's Hottest Team" mantle to Alabama.
