St. Cloud State's rise through the rankings – we had them 29th in the preseason – may only be matched by Minnesota's fall. The Huskies, with a two-game split at No. 1 North Dakota, passed their first major test of the season and leapt into the top three in this week's rankings.

Here's how the Inside College Hockey editors and staff ranks the nation's top teams. You can let us know what you think and we'll share your thoughts below.

1. North Dakota Just when we think this is an "offense only" outfit, they win with defense on Saturday.
7-2-0 (3-1-0 WCHA). LAST WEEK: L vs. St. Cloud State, 2-1; W vs. St. Cloud State, 2-1. THIS WEEK: at Denver, at Denver.
2. Boston College 1 The founding fathers would be proud: John Adams scores two goals and leads stifling defense (15 shots allowed) vs. UMass.
6-2-2 (3-0-1 Hockey East). LAST WEEK: T at New Hampshire, 2-2 ot; W at Massachusetts, 4-1. THIS WEEK: vs. Merrimack, vs. Providence.
3. St. Cloud State 6 Who would've believed that their first loss of the season would come on Nov. 15?
8-1-1 (6-1-1 WCHA). LAST WEEK: W at North Dakota, 2-1; L at North Dakota, 2-1. THIS WEEK: at Rensselaer, at Rensselaer.
4. New Hampshire 2 Dick Umile had the Providence game pegged for a letdown from about the time the schedule was announced.
6-2-1 (3-1-1 Hockey East). LAST WEEK: T vs. Boston College, 2-2 ot; L at Providence, 7-4. THIS WEEK: at Northeastern, vs. Northeastern.
5. Maine Black Bears got back on track and joined Michigan as the nation's only nine-win teams.
9-2-0 (4-2-0 Hockey East). LAST WEEK: W vs. Northeastern, 5-2; W vs. UMass Lowell, 4-0. THIS WEEK: at Massachusetts, at Providence.
6. Michigan 2 Wolverines are 1-3-0 when allowing more than three goals this season after 5-2 loss at Ohio State Saturday.
9-3-0 (4-3-0 CCHA). LAST WEEK: W at Ohio State, 4-0; L at Ohio State, 5-2. THIS WEEK: Off.
7. Colorado College 1 Tigers are all rested up (although not completely healthy) heading into weekend tangle in Madison.
6-1-1 (3-1-0 WCHA). LAST WEEK: Off. THIS WEEK: at Wisconsin, at Wisconsin.
8. Denver 1 Down 4-1 on Friday, the Pioneers scored seven unanswered goals to get three points in the series.
7-2-1 (3-2-1 WCHA). LAST WEEK: T at Alaska Anchorage, 4-4 ot; W at Alaska Anchorage, 4-0. THIS WEEK: vs. North Dakota, vs. North Dakota.
9. Massachusetts 2 They're catching on in Amherst, as a record crowd of 7,113 watched the BC game.
8-2-0 (5-2-0 Hockey East). LAST WEEK: L vs. Boston College, 4-1; W at Providence, 3-2. THIS WEEK: vs. Maine.
10. Cornell 2 Piling up points in the ECAC with the same excitement as the national Scrabble tournament.
3-1-2 (3-0-1 ECAC). LAST WEEK: T at Clarkson, 2-2 ot; W at St. Lawrence, 2-1. THIS WEEK: vs. Bowling Green, vs. Ohio State.
11. Boston University Stephen Siwiec snapped Sean Fields' string of 35 straight starts and earned a 6-1 win Saturday night.
3-2-2 (2-1-1 Hockey East). LAST WEEK: T at Merrimack, 2-2 ot; W vs. Merrimack, 6-1. THIS WEEK: vs. UMass Lowell, at UMass Lowell.
12. Brown 7 Offense comes to life in 6-0 and 5-1 wins, giving them the biggest jump in this week's rankings.
4-1-0 (4-1-0 ECAC). LAST WEEK: W vs. Yale, 6-0; W vs. Princeton, 5-1. THIS WEEK: Off.
13. Dartmouth Half-full: Still undefeated. Half-empty: One win in four conference games.
2-0-3 (1-0-3 ECAC) LAST WEEK: T at Union, 1-1 ot; T at Rensselaer, 1-1 ot. THIS WEEK: at Yale, at Princeton.
14. Ohio State 4 Buckeyes are 5-0-0 in games following a loss thus far. They were 3-7-0 after defeats last season.
8-5-0 (7-3-0 CCHA). LAST WEEK: L vs. Michigan, 4-0; W vs. Michigan, 5-2. THIS WEEK: at Colgate, at Cornell.
15. Michigan State 1 Has the Spartans' goalie of the future arrived? Freshman Dominic Vicari starts both ends of split at Miami.
7-4-1 (6-3-1 CCHA). LAST WEEK: L at Miami, 4-2; W at Miami, 3-1. THIS WEEK: vs. Wayne State, vs. Wayne State.
16. Providence 1 Paul Pooley during Friday's win over UNH: "I told them, 'This is fun. Just go out and have fun.'"
6-3-2 (2-3-2 Hockey East). LAST WEEK: W vs. New Hampshire, 7-4; L vs. Massachusetts, 3-2. THIS WEEK: at Boston College, vs. Maine.
17. Notre Dame 2 David Brown spends "off" weekend by making 28 saves in a 4-0 exhibition win against the U.S. Under-18 team.
5-3-1 (4-3-1 CCHA). LAST WEEK: W vs. U.S. Under-18 Team (Ex.), 4-0. THIS WEEK: vs. Lake Superior State, vs. Lake Superior State.
18. Wisconsin NR Hard work pays off as Badgers tie and beat Minnesota. A similar effort with be required versus talented CC team.
6-3-1 (3-2-1 WCHA). LAST WEEK: T vs. Minnesota, 3-3 ot; W vs. Minnesota, 4-3 ot. THIS WEEK: vs. Colorado College, vs. Colorado College.
19. Harvard 9 Packard, Welch, Pettit and Cavanagh scored on Saturday. That's more like it after yet another loss to Princeton at Bright on Friday.
2-2-1 (2-2-1 ECAC). LAST WEEK: L vs. Princeton, 4-2; W vs. Yale, 4-1. THIS WEEK: Off.
20. Holy Cross NR Not a bad week: ex-Crusader Pat Rissmiller made his NHL debut and his alma mater knocks off the top dogs in Atlantic Hockey. Holy Cross's only losses are to teams in the rankings, two by one goal.
6-3-1 (6-0-1 Atlantic Hockey). LAST WEEK: W at Mercyhurst, 5-2; W at Mercyhurst, 6-5 ot. THIS WEEK: at Connecticut, vs. Sacred Heart.
