It might be explained by the full moon ... early-season oddities ... or maybe we were wrong about a few teams. But upsets abounded in the first full weekend of play. With such a small sample size, the surprising results created lots of movement in this week's INCH Power Rankings.

Here's how the Inside College Hockey editors and staff ranks the nation's top teams. You can let us know what you think and we'll share your thoughts below.

1. Boston College 1 Eagle opponents will be glad that shootouts only occur in in-season tournaments. The lineup: Ben Eaves, Patrick Eaves, Ryan Shannon, Tony Voce and Ty Hennes.

2. New Hampshire 2 A stat Merrimack will get sick of hearing between now and Thursday: the Wildcats hold a 25-0-3 edge in the teams' last 28 meetings.

3. North Dakota 2 Zach Parise's knee injury, if it's serious, could take some of the shine off of this weekend's big series with Boston College.

4. Minnesota 3 Gophers looked flat until exploding for seven goals in the last 22:24 of Saturday's game.

5. Harvard 1 Crimson can sit back and enjoy the upsets – for now.

6. Boston University 1 The Terriers are 13-2 in their last 15 season openers.
LAST WEEK: W vs. Rensselaer, 5-2. THIS WEEK: at Vermont.
7. Maine 7 Black Bears made the early season's biggest statement with their win at the Maverick Stampede.
LAST WEEK: W vs. Minnesota, 4-0; W vs. Wisconsin, 6-2. THIS WEEK: vs. Sacred Heart, vs. U.S. Under-18 Team (Ex.) in Black Bear Classic.
8. Michigan 5 The Wolverines fall five spots, equalling the number of third-period goals they surrendered Friday at Miami.
LAST WEEK: L at Miami, 8-3; W at Miami, 2-1. THIS WEEK: vs. Quinnipiac, vs. Quinnipiac.
9. Massachusetts 1 Maine doesn't look ready to give the Minutemen its top-four spot in Hockey East just yet.

10. Cornell 1 Maybe they need to throw fish at football players: Harvard 27, Cornell 0.

11. Denver The U.S. Under-18 Team actually held a 2-0 lead before the Pioneers responded with six straight goals.

12. Colorado College Tom Preissing's first career NHL point came on Sunday night's eventual game-winner for the San Jose Sharks.

13. Ferris State 3 Last year the Bulldogs reeled off eight straight wins after a season-opening loss. Can they do it again?

14. Dartmouth 2 Big Green have a good women's team, too: first-year head coach Mark Hudak's club is preseason No. 2 in the nation.

15. Minnesota Duluth 2 The Bulldogs' 0-2-1 record has come against the nation's toughest schedule. Now they get a break, before visiting the defending champs for two.

16. Northern Michigan NR Only five teams in the nation posted two wins last weekend: Maine, Massachusetts, Providence, Quinnipiac and the Wildcats.

17. Minnesota State 3 Everybody wants to see David Backes, but it was another freshman, Travis Morin, with a hat trick in the exhibition.

18. Wisconsin Freshmen and sophomores have accounted for 15 of the Badgers' 16 points.

19. Ohio State 2 Buckeyes salvage a split, but they can't say we didn't warn them about Rob Globke (hat trick Friday).
