Bowling Green Calls on Former Captain

Doug Schueller, a former BGSU hockey player, has been named assistant hockey coach at Bowling Green State University, head coach Scott Paluch announced. Schueller replaces Ron Fogarty, who recently accepted the head coach position at Adrian College.

"I am really excited to be returning to my alma-mater," said new assistant coach Doug Schueller, "It is going to be great to give back to Bowling Green after they have given me so much when I was there."

Schueller, a BGSU graduate (1997-01), and a three-time captain for the Falcons, spent the last year as an assistant coach with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League (USHL).

In his first year with Sioux Falls, Schueller helped coach the Stampede to a 43-13-4 (.750) record and a West Division title.

Prior to his time with the Stampede, Schueller played three years in the American Hockey League (AHL) and the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).

While at Bowling Green, the Inver Grove Hts., Minn., native, played in 138 career games, recording 16 goals and 30 assists. He also racked up 251 penalty minutes and three game-winning goals. Schueller was an assistant captain for the Falcons as a sophomore during the 1998-99 season. He wore the "C" in both the 1999-00 and 2000-01 season, with the Falcons advancing to the CCHA semi-finals at Joe Louis Arena his senior year.
