WCHA
Denies Wisconsin Protest
The WCHA has denied Wisconsin's protest of the outcome of the Badgers' game against Denver last Friday, Jan. 11.
Badger forward Matt Ford appeard to score
a goal with less than a second left in regulation to tie
the game at 3-3. Though television replays showed that Ford
scored with 0.9 seconds remaining, referee Randy Schmidt
ruled that the puck did not cross the line prior to the
end of the period, allowing Denver to escape with a 3-2
win. The league acknowleged the error Saturday.
In a statement issued today, the WCHA cited two items from the current NCAA hockey rules and interpretation book as the basis for its decision. One bylaw states that protests are not recognized our allowed; the other states that the referee's decision is final, nullifying the appeal.
